Dr. A lex Yui-Huen KWAN Dr. MA Hing-keung Dr. Henry N ai Ching WONG Dr. Danny Shiu-lam PA AU (1980) by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Hui has published widely in Process Control, Statistical Computing and Time Series Analysis. Before joining the Statistics Department o f this University in 1983 , Dr. Hui was Lecturer in Statistics at the National University o f Singapore. Dr. A lex Yui-Huen KWAN Lec turer , Depar tmen t o f Social Work Dr. Kwan completed his undergraduate studies in Sociology at Hong Kong Baptist College (1969 ), obtained the degree o f MA (Sociology/Social Work) from the University o f North Dakota, U.S.A. (1971 ), MSW (Social Work) from the University o f British Columbia, Canada (1982), and PhD (Sociology/Social Work) from the Louisiana State University, U.S.A. (1977). Before joining this University in 1982, Dr. Kwan was Assistant Lecturer in Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist College from 1971 to 1974; Associate Professor in Social Work at Tunghai University, Taiwan from 1977 to 1978; Lecturer in Social Work at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia from 1978 to 1981. Dr. Kwan's research interest is in the area o f social gerontology, elderly service , social programme assessment/evaluation, and social problems. Dr. MA Hing-keung Lecturer, Department o f Psychology Dr. Ma Hing-keung graduated from the Department o f Physics o f the University o f Hong Kong in 1974. He was a physics teacher at King's College from 1974 to 1978. In the autumn o f 1978 , he went to Britain to further his studies in Education and Psychology at the University o f London, where he obtained the degrees o f MA (Educational Psychology) and PhD (Developmental Psychology). Dr. Ma joined the Psychology Department o f this University in 1983. Dr. Ma's major research interest is in the study o f moral and social development. D r. Henry Nai Ching WONG Lec t urer , Depar tment o f Chemistry Dr. Henry Nai Ching Wong received his undergraduate training at the Department o f Chemistry o f The Chinese University o f Hong Kong. After graduation, he was awarded a Shell Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies and went to University College London. He obtained his PhD in 1976, under the supervision o f the late Professor Franz Sondheimer. From 1976 to 1978, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow, working w ith the late Professor R.B. Woodward at Harvard University. He then returned to spend a year at University College London as a Ramsay Memorial Fellow. From 1980 to 1982, he was an Associate Research Fellow at the Shanghai Institute o f Organic Chemistry, Academia Sinica, China. Dr. Wong was a Lecturer at the Department o f Applied Science, Hong Kong Polytechnic, before he joined this University. Dr. Wong's main research interests are in the synthesis and study o f unnatural products. Dr. Danny Shiu-lam PAAU Assistant to Di rec t or , Internat i onal Asian Studies Programme Dr. Danny Shiu-lam Paau taught for six years in a secondary school before he enrolled at The Chinese University o f Hong Kong in 1969. He then studied and taught concurrently and in 1973 completed his BA (History & Sociology) degree. In 1975 and 1979 he obtained the MA and PhD degrees respectively at the University o f Georgia, U.S.A. He specializes in Modern Chinese Intellectual History. A t the University o f Georgia , Dr. Paau was a Teaching Fellow from 1976 to 1979, teaching courses in the history o f Western civilization. Upon his return to Hong Kong, he served as an officer at the Indepen dent Commission Against Corruption. Dr. Paau joined the International Asian Studies Programme in August 1983. PROFILES 17
