D r. P atrick P.L. Tarn Dr. Patrick P.L. Tam Seni or Lec t u r e r in A n a t om y Dr. Patrick P.L. Tam obtained his BSc (First Class Honour) in Biology and MPhil degree in Reproductive Physiology from the University o f Hong Kong in 1975 and 1977 respectively. He was then awarded a British Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue further studies in the Medical Research Council Mammalian Development Unit at University College, London, UK. He graduated w ith a PhD in Mammalian Embryology from the University o f London in 1980 and was elected a Corporate Member o f the Institute o f Bio logy in UK in the same year. Dr. Tam was appointed a Research Associate in the Centre for Developmental Biology in the University of Texas at Austin in 1980- 1981 , where he did the pioneering work on somite formation and mesodermal patterning in mouse embryos. He joined the Faculty o f Medicine o f this University in 1981 as a Lecturer in Anatomy and was appointed a Senior Lecturer in 1987. Dr. Tam was awarded a Croucher Foundation Fellowship in 1986 and worked as a Visiting Scientist in the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Developmental Biology Unit at the University o f Oxford, where he carried out research on the in vitro culture, tissue grafting and micromanipulation o f mouse embryos. Dr. Tam's research interest lies in the area o f the formation and regulation o f mesodermal tissue patterns and neurulation in the mammalian embryo during gastrulation and early organogenesis. He is also involved in the clinical application o f in vitro fertiliza tion and embryo transfer, the study o f the biological effects o f abortifacient plant protein and the regula tion of growth in teratogen-treated embryos. Dr. Tam has recently been awarded the Symington Memorial Prize in Anatomy by the Anatomical Society o f Great Britain and Ireland in recognition o f the originality of his research papers. He is the first awardee outside the UK since the Prize was established in 1920. Professor M un K in-cho k Professor Mun Kin-chok Dean o f Fa c u l t y o f Business Adm i n i s t r a t i o n Professor Mun Kin-chok obtained his Diplom- Volkswirt and Dr. rer. pol. degrees from the Univer sity o f Freiburg, West Germany. Before joining The Chinese University in 1969 , he was Associate Pro fessor o f the Faculty o f Commerce o f Nanyang University in Singapore. Professor Mun is now Pro fessor and Chairman o f the Department o f Marketing and International Business o f this University, and concurrently Dean o f the Faculty o f Business Admin istration. He was also Dean in 1981-84. Professor Mun is Honorary Professor o f more than ten academic institutions in China including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, University of International Business and Economics, South China Institute o f Technology, Northeast University of Technology, East China Institute o f Technology, Chongqing University and Hunan University. He is also Honorary Research Fellow o f the Institute of Industrial Economics, Chinese Academy o f Social Sciences, Honorary President o f the Guangdong Marketing Association and Regional Chairman o f the Academy o f International Business in Southeast Asia. Concerning services to the local community, Pro fessor Mun is a member o f the Wholesale/Retail and Import/Export Trades Training Board and the Voca tional Training Council, President o f the Hong Kong Institute o f Marketing, and Chairman o f the Advisory Board on Marketing o f Lingnan College. Professor Mun planned and organized diploma courses in marketing management for executives from China from 1981 to 1986. Professor Mun's research interest focuses on China's enterprise management and marketing. He has published five books and presented many papers at international conferences. Professor Mun is adviser to International Journal o f Research in Marketing (Holland), Asia Pacific Journal o f Management (Singapore) and Journal o f Global Marketing (U.S.A.). 21
