University has devoted unceasing effort to develop co-operative ties and exchange relationships with the international academic community. Over the years, i t has played host to numerous visiting scholars and academics. The inter-university hall, to be built on the east- em tip of the campus adjacent to the existing Yali Guest House, w i l l provide accommodation for visiting scholars, researchers and guests of the University and is expected to be completed in early summer of 1991. Fung King Hey Bust Unveiled The University has recently erected on its campus the bust of the late Mr. Fung Kin g Hey, former chairman of the Sun Hung Kai Co. Ltd., to signify his long-term support to the business administration education at the University. The bust was unveiled on 17th October, 1989 by Mrs. Fung King Hey in a brief ceremony held at the foyer of the University's Fung King Hey Building, which was opened and named after Mr. Fung in 1986. About 60 guests attended the ceremony, including members of the Fung's family and those from the local business community. Mr. Fung was a long-time benefactor o f the University. In 1976 when part-time courses were not available to working executives, Mr. Fung and his friends put forward the idea of establishing a Three- Year M B A Programme, and with their donations the evening programme was started in 1977. Serving as co-chairman of the University's Advisory Board o f Three-Year MBA Programme fro m 1977 to 1985, Mr. Fung's interest i n and support of the development of the programme continued throughout th e years. Under his benign guidance the programme has made tremendous progress and hitherto more than 400 business executives have received valuable training. Officiating at the ceremony, Sir Quo-wei Lee, chairman of the University Council, remarked, ‘Facing this crucial period of historical transition, Hong Kong needs a plentiful supply of talents to maintain stability and prosperity. Hence i f we look back upon Mr. Fung's decision more than ten years ago to support the establishment of the Three-Year MBA Programme, we cannot but admire his foresight and sagacity.' Department of Morbid Anatomy Renamed The Senate has approved that the name of the Department o f Morbid Anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine be changed to Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology as from 1989-90. The new name is meant to better reflect the department's activities, to keep abreast of developments in the field, and to avoid misunderstanding of the context of the original name by laymen and professionals. Professorial Inaugural Lecture Professor Tei k E. Oh, professor o f anaesthesia and intensive care, delivered his inaugural lecture on 3rd November, 1989 at the lecture theatre of the Prince of Wales Hospital. The topic was ‘Life with Death - the Science and Art of Intensive Care Medicine'. Croucher Foundation Supports Biotechnology Research The Croucher Foundation has made a donation of HK$2,000,000 to support a research project on 'Genetic Reconstitution of H i gh - A f f i n i ty Uptake Systems for Neurotransmitters' conducted by Pro- fessor Dominic Man-Kit Lam, professor of biotech- nology at the University and director of the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology (HKIB).
