First, it is mandated to train 300 CUHK and H K U medical students i n primary eye care every year, to t r a in eye specialists f or the Hospital Authority, and to provide commun i ty education programmes aimed at the prevention of eye diseases. I n the second place, the department w i l l help to raise the standard of eye care not only by producing more specialists, but also by p r ov i d i ng specific training i n sub- specializations such as neuro-ophthalmology, traumatology and reconstructive surgery. I n terms of research, projects w i l l be undertaken w i t h an interdisciplinary approach i nvo l v i ng the p a r t i c i p a t i on of pha rma c o l og i s t s, pa t ho l og i s t s, b i o c hem i s t s and mo l e c u l a r biologists. Three Cl ini cal Teams, One Each for Hong Kong, Kowl oon, and the New Territories The department consists of three clinical teams, one located at the Ho ng Kong Eye Hospital i n Kowloon, one at the Prince of Wales Hospital i n the New Territories, and one at Queen Ma ry Hospital on Ho ng Kong Island. On 1st July 1994, Prof. Tso assumed the concurrent post of Chief of Service of the Hong Kong Eye Hospital i n Argyle Street, wh i ch is the centre of eye service for the Kowloon region, s u p p o r t e d b y c l i n i cs at Queen E l i zabe t h Hospital, Kowl oon Hospital, Buddhist Hospital, East Kow l oon Clinic, Pamela Youde Clinic and Kwo ng Wah Hospital.
