A New Map of Innovation and Education 5 stitute The CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute (SRI), located in Shenzhen Virtual University Science Park, Nan Shan Distric t, is scheduled for completion at the end of 2010. It will be a U-shaped, 10-storey building with a gross floor area of 25,000 sq m, providing spaces and facilities for state key laboratories, technology transfer, spin-off companies, training and teaching. Through the SRI, the Chinese University will advance its collaboration with Shenzhen by developing work in education, research and industrialization in Shenzhen and the Greater Pearl River Delta. As the Chinese University’s teaching platform in Shenzhen, the SRI will develop professional programmes complementing Shenzhen’s development, as well as non- degree and training programmes in engineering, management and hygiene, and groom talent for Shenzhen, the Pearl River Delta and the country. The SRI will serve as an important Shenzhen research base for CUHK. Through it, the Chinese University will advance collaboration with the Shenzhen Municipal Government to establish world-class laboratories and take part in state key research, complementing the national development plan for the Pearl River Delta. The SRI will also become a centre of industrialization for the University’s technology research. It will do so by collaborating with corporations in Shenzhen, promoting the transfer of CUHK technologies and fostering the economic reengineering of the Pearl River Delta.
