Taiwan University, the Hong Kong Futures Exchange, the Hong Kong Economic Times, the Hong Kong-America Center, and the University's Faculty of Business Administration. • Two research programmes under the aegis of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies organized the following functions: • A workshop entitled "'Little Women" and "Little Men" — Sex Role Stereotyping and Its Ambi valence in the Development of Adolescents' organized by the Gender Research Programme on 28th May 1994. • A conference on the latest economic development across the Taiwan Strait and the prospect of economic cooperation in the Asia- Pacific region, organized by the Japan and Asia- Pacific Development Research Programme from 9th to 10th June 1994. The conference was sponsored by the Ming-yu Culture Foundation (Taipei), The Chinese Economic and Trade Association (Hong Kong) and The Hong Kong and Macau Association (Taipei). • The Department of Psychology held an International Conference on Chinese Psychology from 31st May to 2nd June 1994. • The Department of Decision Sciences & Managerial Economics and the School of Continuing Studies j o i n t l y organized an international conference on the economic development and transformation of the Tour Little Dragons' from 4th to 5th June 1994. University Press Video Wins Awards An instructional video package produced by The Chinese University Press won two awards: the Silver Award of the Outstanding Community Participation Projects Award 1994, and the Best Display Award of 1994 Civic Education Display. Entitled 'How to Conduct School Society Meetings', the video explains the essentials of conducting effective meetings and shows how an effective meeting can streamline the activities of a school society. The script was written by Mr. Fung Yee-wang and Ms. Teresa Siu of the Faculty of Education. 1994 Graduates In the 1993-94 academic year, a total of 2,231 students from six faculties completed their full-time undergraduate studies: 365 from the Faculty ofArts, 482 from the Faculty of Business Administration, 354 from the Faculty of Engineering, 151 from the Faculty of Medicine, 329 from the Faculty of Science, and 550 from the Faculty of Social Science. The part-time degree programmes on the other hand produced 208 graduates: 39 from the Business Administration Programme, 23 from the Chinese and English Programme, four from the Mathematics and Statistics Programme, 17 from the Music Programme, 26 from the Nursing Programme, 35 from the Physical Education Programme, 45 from the Primary Education programme and 19 from the Social Work Programme. In addition, 422 students from the Faculty of Education completed their postgraduate studies leading to the Diploma in Education. Of the lot, 65 are from the one-year full-time programme, the others from the two-year part-time programmes. Art Gallery Exhibition The Art Gallery held an exhibition on 'Chinese Archaic Jades from the Kwan Collection' in its west wing gallery from 16th July to 13th November. There were 239 pieces of Chinese archaic jades from the Neolithic period to the Han dynasty, spanning a period of about 4,000 years. The diversity in form and content and the exquisite workmanship reflect different aspects of primitive religious beliefs and moral philosophies in ancient China, and demonstrate the development of the jade carving industry in the period. A ll exhibits were drawn from the collection of Dr. Simon Kwan, a well-known local architect and fervent Chinese art collector. News in Brief 36
