Admission Information
Qualification Criteria
- Graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree (major subjects are not restricted), normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or
- Completed a course of study in a tertiary education institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree; and
- Fulfill the "English Language Proficiency Requirement" as stipulated by the Graduate School before being considered for admission.
Requirement
- Applicants must submit a written statement (400-600 words on 1 page A4 size), the written statement must answer TWO questions.
Procedures and Preparation
Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since admission is competitive and applications are processed on a rolling basis.

- Full official transcript (with grading scheme) of all tertiary level studies ( If your transcript does not indicate the grading scheme(積分說明), please send the grading scheme which MUST indicate your grade, such as 90-100 A grade, 80-90 B grade, 70-80 C grade with Registrar’s chop (教務處 & 教務處印章) etc., to us via post to our programme immediately;
- Copies of all tertiary certificates of academic/professional qualifications (e.g. 學士學位證書及畢業證書);
- Proof of English language proficiency;
- Confidential recommendations from two referees respectively*;
- For Local Student, Assessment report from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) on the level of qualification obtained for degrees awarded by overseas universities by distance learning or by completing a curriculum of short duration.
- Copies of identity card or passport; and
- CV and written statement (2 questions);
- For Mainland Student, Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate issued by the CHESICC**
**Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) and an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate (中國高等教育學位在線驗證報告) issued by the CHESICC (學信網) together with other supporting documents. Please refer to the official website of the CHESICC on the sample of the Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate at https://www.chsi.com.cn/xlcx/bgys.jsp. - The University may require applicants to submit additional information or documentary proof if deemed necessary.
* Official transcripts and confidential recommendations must reach respective Graduate Divisions directly from the University and referees, or in sealed envelopes and sent by the applicant with other supporting documents to our department.

Tuition Fee
1 year full-time: HKD$135,000 per annum (subject to review)
2 years part-time: HKD$67,500 per annum (subject to review)
2 installments for full-time students
4 installments for part-time students
Additional tuition fee will be charged for each course taken after the normative study period.
CUHK-MAICS Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship
The CUHK-MAICS Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship aims to provide an opportunity for members of underrepresented groups in postgraduate programs in Hong Kong universities to pursue a Taught MA degree in Intercultural Studies.
We are looking for applicants who are leaders or trailblazers in different fields of cultural work and whose race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and nationality are not fully represented in our student body. We also welcome the applications of aspiring scholars who have plans to undertake doctoral research with the potential to make a significant contribution to Cultural Studies and its related fields.
Eligibility for scheme
For our inaugural scheme, priority will be given to applicants who are citizens of ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam), Brazil, India, and South Africa.
Amount of scholarship
Each student will receive a full tuition scholarship

Am I eligible for admission?
Applicants must fulfill the entry requirement of Master’s programme stated on the Graduate School website at https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/:
- Graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
- Graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or
- Completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree.

What is the English Language Proficiency Requirement?
- Applicants must submit the original score report of one of the following tests:
- TOEFL (not lower than 550 paper based, 213 computer based, and 79 internet based);
- IELTS (Academic) (overall band score of not lower than 6.5);
- GMAT (Verbal not lower than 21);
- Or possess a pass grade in English in one of the following examinations:
- Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (AS Level);
- Hong Kong Higher Level Examination;
- CUHK Matriculation Examination;
- Or achieve Level 4 or above in the English Language subject of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination;
- Or have a degree from a university in Hong Kong or an English speaking country,
- Or have obtained a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country.

For the Confidential Recommendation Form, should the referees be from the academic field?
The referee can be a teacher, professor or academic advisor who is well acquainted with your current academic performance. Or someone who knows you well, such as a job supervisor, volunteer advisor, etc.

What is the word limit for the personal statement?
There is no actual word limit, around one to two pages of A4 paper, written in English.

When is the application deadline?
The application is open from October to February every year. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis until all places have been filled. Therefore, early applications are strongly encouraged. For the exact date, please refer to the Graduate School website at https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/.

When will I receive the notification of my application result?
Application results will be posted on the Graduate School website (taught programmes) from January to June every year. Applicants may consider their applications unsuccessful if they do not hear from us thereafter.

(For non-local applicants) How can I apply for a valid visa to study in Hong Kong?
If you are admitted to our programme, we will assist you to apply for entry permit from the Hong Kong Immigration Department and send the permit to you by courier. You are also required to apply for a valid exit permit from your country. For details, please refer to the Graduate School website at https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/.

(For non-local applicants) Is accommodation provided by the University?
The University does not provide accommodation for postgraduate students of self-financed taught programmes. Students are responsible for their own accommodation.
