As a manifestation of their confidence in this University's developments, local and overseas individuals and foundations have donated generously to support its physical development programmes, research projects, fellowship and scholarship schemes, etc. Th e University received the following gifts and donations in 1979. Physical Development Programmes (1) From Mr. Li Dak Sum a donation of not more than three million Hong Kong dollars for the construction of a teaching building on the campus. (2) From Dr. A w Sian a donation of H K $ 1,500,000 for the construction of a Chinese Medicinal Material Research Laboratory. (3) From the surplus fund in the amount of HK$565,640.99, left over from the contributions of Sir Yue-Kong Pao's family towards the construction of the Sui-Loong Pao Building, to set up a "Sui-Loong Pao Trust Fund",and to utilize the bank interest generated to meet expenses related to staff and campus development. (4) From the surplus fund in the amount of HK$255,278, left over from the donation by the late Mr. Y. C. Liang for the construction of a Lecture Theatre Complex, to meet part of the cost for the conversion of two former Pro-Vice- Chancellors' houses into guest houses. Equipment (5) From Television Broadcasts Limited a donation of HK$50,000 for the purchase of photographic equipment for the Art Gallery. (6) From Class Nos. 1 and 2 of the Diploma in Management Studies Programme a sum of HK$2,500 and HK$2,600 respectively to the Lingnan Institute of Business Administration for the purchase ofvidio recording and playback equipment.
