G i f ts and D o n a t io n s As a manifestation o f their confidence in this Univer sity 's development, local and overseas individuals and foundations have donated generously to support the University's research projects , fellowship and scholarship schemes. The University has recently received the follow ing gifts and donations: (1) From Friends of the Art Gallery: (a) HK$45,000 for the establishment of ‘Sir Edward Youde Memorial Summer Work- Study Programme at the Art Gallery' for three years with effect from 1987; and (b) HK$30,000 for the establishment of two scholarships of HK$5,000 each, to be awarded annually to students of the Department of Fine Arts for three years with effect from 1987-88. (2) From the Incorporated Trustees of Hsin Chong - K.N. Godfrey Yeh Education Fund: (a) HK$25,000 for the 1987-88 student campus work scheme; and (b) HK$ 15 , 000 for the award of six bursaries of HK$2,500 each to needy students in 1987-88. (3) From Mrs. Lam Yeung Sin-wah a donation of HK$250,000 for the establishment of ‘Mr. Lam On Hang Memorial Fund (Student Activities)'. (4) From four external examiners of the Faculty of Medicine a donation of HK$500 for a prize to be awarded to the best medical student in Part I of the Third Professional Examination. (5) From Cerfab Technology Company lim ited a donation of HK$50,000 in support of a joint research project undertaken by the Department of Physics and the Company. (6) From the Croucher Foundation a donation of HK$11,250 in support of a research project of the Department of Morbid Anatomy. (7) From Davis & Geek Division of Cyanamid (Far East) Ltd. a donation of HK$ 10,000 in support of a research project of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. (8) From Jardine Danby Ltd. a donation of HK$ 10,000 for research and general purposes of the Department of Chemical Pathology. (9) From Dr. Ma Pui-han a donation of HK$ 1,000,000 in support of research and other academic activities undertaken by Pro fessor Thomas Chung Wai Mak and Dr. James C.N. Ma of the Department of Chemistry. (10) From Medtronic International Ltd. to the Department of Medicine: (a) HK$4,450 in support of acardiac research project; (b) HK$22,500 for promoting medical research and application of cardiac pacing; and (c) expenses for the weekly cardiac seminar held on 20th June, 1987. (11) From Shiu Wing Steel lim ited a further dona tion of HK$200,000 for the Chinese Medicinal Material Research Centre. (12) From Smith Kline & French Laboratories a donation of HK$80,000 in support of aresearch project of the Department of Medicine. (13) From World Health Organization: (a) US$1,500 as an additional grant for a research project undertaken by Dr. Kong Yun-cheung of the Department of Bio chemistry; and (b) US$30,000 in support of a research pro ject of the Department of Community Medicine. 27
