Two closely related series of efforts in past three years

For a promotion of Sino-foreign interchange on interdisciplinary areas of intelligence science, information science, and intelligent data engineering, and also in memory of thirty year anniversary of the Zhongguancun Golden Triangle ISIS Forum founded and propelled by two late senior academicians Prof. T. Chang of Tsinghua University and Prof. M. T. Cheng of Peking University, two founders of the Division of Information Technical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

A.    Another series One is a serial annual workshops on Intelligence Science and Intelligent Data Engineering (IScIDE) as a collective venue for introducing world frontier researchers to China and for introducing core researchers from Chinese major universities and research institutions to international communities.

B.    One is a series of efforts on four special issues on Frontiers of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in China, which has been renamed as Frontiers of Electrical and Electronic Engineering since 2012, for which I have being serving as the Guest Editor.

·      Volume 5, Number 3 / September 2010,  consisting of  nine invited survey articles written by

S. Amari, E. Oja, J. Rissanen, A. Yuille, J.Schmidhuber, R. W. Yeung, Runsheng Chen, Yanda Li, and Lei Xu, on  Emerging themes on information theory and Bayesian Approach, especially on topics these authors pioneered.

and the editorial http://www.springerlink.com/content/k68031581527q255/fulltext.pdf

All the authors are IEEE Fellows or/and Members of National Academy of Sciences.

·      Volume 6, Number 1 / March 2011, A special issue on Machine learning and intelligence science: Sino-foreign interchange workshop IScIDE2010 (A). consisting of  fourteen invited survey or research articles.

The first half provides an insightful view for the core achievements by Chinese colleagues, with articles written by professors from major universities in mainland China.

The second half aims at a much wider scope of intelligence science (vision system, neural system, human behavior, and generic issues) for broadening the readers’ knowledge of this journal, written by professors from Hong Kong, Taipei, Japan, Europe, and USA.

·      Volume 7, Number 1 / March 2012, A special issue on Machine learning and intelligence science: IScIDE2010 (C). is a supplementary issue of Volume 6, Number 1 / March 2011. The two special issues may serve as a representative showing window for observing the achievements of professors in China. Actually, these authors come from more than 20 major universities in China (including the topmost nine mainland universities). Among them, eleven professors are recipients of Chinese NSF Distinguished Young Scholars, while others are also recipients of various levels of academic honors.

·      Volume 6, Number 2 / June 2011, A special issue on Machine learning and intelligence science: Sino-foreign interchange workshop IScIDE2010 (B). consisting of nineteen invited research articles: the two-third comes from major universities in mainland China while the rest comes from universities in Hong Kong (China), England, and Finland. This special issue provides a typical perspective for international communities to observe the researches of Ph.D candidates in China.
