Vision & Mission
The feet are the foundation to our entire body and problems in this region significantly limit a patient's quality of life. Our team aims to relieve pain, restore function and renew hope via the recreation of a pain-free, plantigrade, shoeable foot.

engineering and a work of art. - Leonardo Da Vinci
History of Foot and Ankle Team
The Foot and Ankle subspecialty in our department was first established in 1999 by Prof LK Hung, beginning life as the FAIR team (Foot, Ankle, Infection, and Reconstruction). With the passage of time, the service scope of the FAIR team primarily focuses on Foot and Ankle problems. After Prof Hung, the team was subsequently led by Dr Tse, Dr Cheng and currently by Prof Samuel Ling.
Clinical Services
The team cares for all patients with foot and ankle problems regardless of aetiology. Arthroscopic-assisted minimally invasive hallux valgus correction forms the main bulk of the team's operations while flatfoot surgery and claw toe reconstruction are also commonly performed procedures. Sports related problems such as ankle sprains/instabilty and Achilles tendinopathy are also a large part of our service, as are the treatment of diabetic foot ulcerations and toe gangrene.
Research
Our team has published papers on minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery with the use of small arthroscopes and percutaneous instruments. Our research also includes looking into novel technologies to upregulate the body's regeneration potential with a focus on helping diabetic foot patients. Recently, we have incorporated the use of robotic/computed assisted surgery and 3D printing technology to achieve 'Precision Orthopaedics'.
Future
Foot and Ankle surgery is a young, fast-growing subspecialty. Our team endeavors to provide respectable clinical care to our patients locally, while striving to contribute to the advancement of foot and ankle knowledge internationally.
