Introduction
In 2020, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was approved to establish the CUHK Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Institute (Futian), with Professor Qin Ling appointed as the first dean and legal representative. This Institute was established in response to the call of the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan", in line with the construction and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, relying on the advantages of Hong Kong's basic scientific research and Shenzhen's industrialization, to further promote the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation to build up a world-class research institute focusing on robotics, artificial intelligence and medicine, aiming to boost the vigorous development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the fields of intelligent medical care and public health services.
The institute locates in the Hetao area of Shenzhen Futian Free Trade Zone adjacent to Hong Kong's Lok Ma Chau. It has established an applied basic technology research center, making great efforts to break through the five applicable core technologies related to medical robots and artificial intelligence; To the big data platform integrating video of the surgical treatment process, to promote data sharing and technology exchange; to establish a comprehensive testing base for medical robots, to promote the industrialization of medical robots, to accelerate the implementation of artificial intelligence, and to enhance the core development of scientific research and industrial transformation in cutting-edge fields such as smart medical care.
The overall purpose and scope of the institute include: medium and long-term development planning of the modern industrial system in Futian District; development of urban agglomeration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; carrying out scientific research, professional technology development and application; cultivate high-level innovative scientific research and translational talents; realize translational applications, and establish high-tech enterprises independently or cooperatively.
