The Orthopaedic and Traumatology Department is excited to commence treating patients at the new CUHK Medical Centre. Prof. Patrick Yung, Prof. SW Law, Prof. Clara Wong, Dr. Kevin Ho and Dr. Samuel Ling will all have regular clinics at the new hospital to provide comprehensive care for all musculoskeletal ailments.
Teachers of The Years Awards 2021
Congratulations to Prof. Clara Wong (Associated Professor in Practice) for being awarded the MBChB Alumni Teaching Awards from the Teachers of The Years Awards 2021.
Led by Prof. Ling Qin, Assistant Dean (Mainland Affairs) and Professor of Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Faculty of Medicine, the project "Aging, Skeletal Degeneration and Regeneration" has been awarded the Areas of Ecellence Scheme (9th Round) for over 70 millions Hong Kong dollars.
Prof. Gang Li, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine at CUHK (CU Medicine), have been named 2021 Fellows of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). ORS Fellows are the longstanding members who have demonstrated exemplary service and leadership, substantial achievement, expert knowledge, and significant contributions to the ORS, its governance, and the field of musculoskeletal research.
Prof. Cheung Wing Hoi, Louis is recently award the 10th HOMA Scientific Achievement Award in Osteoporosis Medical Research of China (第十屆中國藥學發展獎康辰骨質疏鬆醫藥研究獎).
Dr. Ronald Wong and Dr. Simon Chow of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology has both granted support from the Germany/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme from the RGC to continue their long-term collaboration with Germany partners on osteoporotic fracture healing related research.

ASBMR Rising Star Awards 2020
Dr. Wayne Lee, Assistant Professor of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, has received the ASBMR Rising Star Awards 2020. The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research provides funding to promising young scientists and physician-scientists in the bone field who have been recognized by individual NIH "K awards" and other similar international professional development programs.
Dr. Wang Yujia, PhD student and currently postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Wayne Lee won the "Best Podium Presentation Award" at the Virtual Congress of The International Research Society of Spinal Deformities (IRSSD) held on 22-23 January 2021. Dr. Wang was awarded for her oral presentation entitled "Role of differentially expressed LBX1 in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) paraspinal muscle phenotypes and muscle-bone crosstalk through modulating myoblasts"
M.Sc. in Sports Medicine and Health Science
Our Sports Medicine masters program (MSc SMHS) held a virtual information day on 15 Jan 2021.
The Sports Medicine and Health Sciences degree (SMHS) garnered >100 applications so far this year, with deadlines approaching in Apr 2021. It is Hong Kong's first taught-programme in sports medicine offering advanced academic training to healthcare and sports professionals. Public Office and Service
A new year comes with a multitude of our staff being elected to public office!
Our chairman Prof. Patrick Yung has been elected as the President of the HK Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science (HKASMSS). He is joined by Ms Winnie Wong who is a council member.
Prof. SW Law will be the President-elect of the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (HKCOS), he is joined by council member Dr Michael Ong.
Dr. Samuel Ling was elected as the Vice-president of the Hong Kong Foot and Ankle Society (HKFAS); he will also serve as the Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association (HKOA) Foot and Ankle Chapter.
Dr. Kevin Ho was elected into the council of the HKOA Adult Joint Reconstruction Chapter.
Dr. Michael Ong will continue to serve as a council member in the HKOA Sports Medicine Chapter.
