Introduction
The Department of Orthopaedic & Traumatology, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was found in 1983. It has been serving patients in the New Territories East region as a tertiary Orthopaedics and Trauma centre in Hong Kong. There are 3 major university affiliated hospital sites (The Prince of Wales Hospital, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Tai Po Hospital) and serving a population of over 1.3 million people.
Through the last 30 years, the department have established itself as an international centre of excellence under the clear founding vision and mission "to provide the highest quality service in patient care, research, education and teaching for the undergraduate and post-graduate training".
Our clinical fellowship programme provides advance level training in the various aspects of community through tertiary level and quaternary level orthopaedic surgery as outlined in the subspecialty options below:

• Hand, Wrist & Microsurgery
• Musculoskeletal Oncology
• Paediatric Orthopaedics
• Spine
• Sport Medicine & Arthroscopy
• Trauma
The basic science research team is housed under the Department Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory with many state-of-art research facilities and equipment setups. There are currently 3 main theme programs foci running in close collaboration with the clinical teams:
• Precision Orthopaedics and Innovative Technologies (POINT)
• Sports Medicine And Regenerative Therapy (SMART)
• Musculoskeletal Development, Health and Ageing Research (MDHAR)
Fellowship Requirements
Clinical fellowship applicants must be a certified medical practitioner in their country of origin. All clinical fellows should apply for temporary limited registration (http://www.dh.gov.hk/english/useful/useful_forms/files/Form_05.pdf) in Hong Kong if they are involved in clinical work (the Programme secretary will assist to proceed the application). Research fellowship applicants must have already had a basic science degree of their country of origin. Applicants should be fluent in English.

In general, all visiting scholars are self-financed. They should be responsible for their own traveling and accommodation expenses.
For fellows of attachment for 6 months or more, they may apply the RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP* of up to USD 3,846 (HKD 30,000). Applications for the scholarship should be indicated at the time of application for the training program. Eligible candidates are expected to contribute to the clinical and/or basic science research of the Department and they will go through a rating system which bases on their academic output during the attachment period. Candidates who pass the assessment will be offered the scholarship.
