Animal & Consumable Orders

Animals & consumable orders are processed via our e-ordering system. In order to make any animal orders you MUST have a valid AEEC number, and sufficient quota of animals remaining. If you don't have an account, please have the PI responsible contact us for details.

When making animal orders please remember that animals MUST only be ordered from a specific AEEC number. Use of animals for one AEEC project in another AEEC project, or use in unapproved experiments is against university policy and may be against HK law.

Within an AEEC project, animals designated for a certain type of experiment MUST only be used in that experimental type. e.g.  Form 1 approved animals MUST only be used in Form 1 procedures, Form 5 approved animals MUST only be used in Form 5 procedures etc.

In the e-ordering website the suffixes -1, -2, -3, -4, -5 & -6 at the end of the AEEC number indicates the type of experiment (e.g 13/000/MIS-5, indicates a form 5 experiment where recovery anaesthesia is permitted).

Please make sure you and your staff/students familiarise yourselves with the AEEC numbers of each of your projects and what types of experiments that you have approval. Breach of AEEC project approvals is a serious offense that may result in suspension of projects, disciplinary action or even prosecution under HK Law.

Animals: 4–6weeks of advanced notice for all animal orders are strongly recommended to ensure LASEC the time for proper planning, breeding, communication, and processing. Animal orders are not guaranteed and can be subject to change based upon availability of stock, user demands etc, however advanced ordering will maximize the chance of order fulfillment.
Consumables: Orders must be completed before 3 p.m. on a working day to ensure next day delivery. Orders placed after the 3pm deadline will be processed on the following working day.
Note, LASEC does not keep rodents over the age of 12 weeks, researchers requiring rodents older than 12 weeks must order animals at or before 12 weeks of age and have them issued to holding for ageing at their own expense.

Special Order Requests

For items not on the e-ordering website or for urgent orders under special circumstances, a special order request may be used.
Please note that a valid AEEC number is still required for ALL animal orders, without which, no animals will be issued.
