It is important that you have adequate financial resources to cover educational and living expenses during your stay in Hong Kong before arrival. You also ought to arrange well in advance money to be transferred to Hong Kong and know how to manage your financial resources when you are away from home. Financial Aids
You should note that the University has no provision of grants or loans for incoming students. Also, incoming students are not eligible to apply for HKSAR’s Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS).

4. Health and Safety
Health Care Service
Medical services can be easily sought in the times of feeling unwell.
- The University Health Service provides free primary outpatient services and paid dental services for all full-time students.
- The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinic cum Clinical Teaching and Research Centre provides Chinese medicine services to students, staff and their dependents.
- Medical services in Hong Kong are provided by both public and private sectors with charges. Public hospitals near CUHK include Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin and Nethersole Hospital in Taipo, while private hospital nearby include CUHK Medical Centre and Union Hospital.
- General or specialist consultations are also available from registered private practitioners and specialists.
Safety
Hong Kong is generally considered a safe city. However, you should still stay vigilant at all times, especially about telephone/ online deception that has been on the rise in recent years. Please stay tuned to latest scam alerts of Anti-Deception Coordination Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) and download their one-stop scam and pitfall search engine, Scameter. If necessary, you may call “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” anti-deception enquiry hotline.
HKPF runs an emergency hotline: 999 and has stations and reporting centres in every district. The nearest Police Report Rooms to CUHK are located in Shatin and Ma On Shan.
5. Learning Cantonese
Learning a bit of the local language, Cantonese, may help integrate into the local cultures and facilitate communication in the daily life. Interested students may learn basic Cantonese through online resources, one-unit taster Cantonese course or three-unit Cantonese course.
