We are delighted to announce the formal establishment of the CRNM at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park on March 1st of 2022.
Tissue Engineering and Restorative Medicine embodies the synergistic integration of a wide range of areas, including stem cells, nanotechnology, intelligent biomaterials and implants, systems engineering, molecular mechanism and gene target-based technologies, and others, all of which depend critically on cross-platform collaborations. The goal of CNRM is to integrate multiple disciplines in biomedical sciences, engineering, and clinical medicine, develop novel and enabling technologies, and build and maintain an educational infrastructure that attracts the best and brightest into the field to ensure future professional manpower development.
The formation of CNRM is purposed to be directly and programmatically relevant to the announced mission of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park of developing modern day technology to achieve healthy aging. With the integration of biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and bioengineering, CNRM aims to advance the scientific understanding of regenerative processes and translate this knowledge to clinical practice by means of engineering technologies. The advancement of regenerative therapies for the restoration of tissue and organ function is the central theme of regenerative medicine, and CNRM will be well positioned as the incubator and pipeline of enabling technologies that will be translationally carried out to reach clinical trials and product development. In addition to serving as a Centre of Research Excellence, a strategically developed CNRM will represent key infrastructural feature of the Hong Kong research enterprise to initiate and establish effective partnership and collaboration with other Research Centres that aim to enhance health for the citizens of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and neighbouring regions.
