MOLECULAR BIOLOGY CORE FACILITIES
Sample Quality Assessment
To evaluate the sizing, quantity and quality of DNA and RNA, which is essential for many down stream applications.
Aglient 2100 Bioanalyzer
The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform which is replacing the labour-intensive formaldehyde gel electrophoresis. The bioanalyzer platform is available for the analysis of DNA, RNA, protein and cells. It only takes 1 hour for the entire assay with automated delivering high quality digital data output. The ratio of RNA fragments (either 18S and 28S for eukaryotic RNA or 16S and 23S for prokaryotic RNA) is calculated and displayed as a RIN value for interpretation of sample quality. For fragmented DNA or DNA libraries analysis, DNA 7500 and High Sensitivity DNA analysis kits are available.
Invitrogen Qubit 2.0 Fluorometer
The Qubit 2.0 Fluorometer is a fluorescence-based analytical instrument, paired with analyte-specific assays, can enable accurate and sensitive nucleic acid and protein quantitation.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Nanodrop ND-1000 & ND-2000 Spectrophotometers
The NanoDrop® ND-2000 is a full-spectrum (194-840nm) UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The newly developed sample retention technology enables the measurement of as small as 0.5μl sample droplet. Simply wiping both the upper and lower pedestals prevents sample carryover in successive measurements for samples varying in concentration by as much as 1000 fold.
