CUHK Attends the Cross-Strait Education Forum under University College Alliance
Hosted by the University College Alliance, the 7th Cross-Strait Forum on Education of Modern Colleges was held at Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai via online and in person modes during 16 to18 July. The Forum was themed “New Era, New Development: College Education Facing the Future”. Professor Jimmy Yu, Head of United College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the Forum on behalf of CUHK. He joined the annual board meeting of the alliance during the event.
At the thematic session, experts and scholars shared their experience in promoting modern college education, and exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation between colleges and universities, collaborative innovation and resources sharing. Seven sub-forums were organized to discuss featured topics such as general education, management mode as well as student nurturing.
The University College Alliance was jointly established by the United College of CUHK, Houde College of National Tsing Hua University, Chengchi College of National Chengchi University, Renzhong College of Fudan University, Wenzhi College of Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Meng Xiancheng College of East China Normal University and Zhixing College of Beihang University in July 2014. It aims to explore the development of college system and to enhance the quality of college education among member universities, contributing to talents nurturing in Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan. CUHK organized the 5th annual forum of the Alliance in 2018, attracting over 400 participants from around 40 institutions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, India, Korea and UK.
Beijing-HK University Alliance Holds Annual Board Meeting
The annual board meeting of the Beijing Hong Kong University Alliance (BHUA) was held online on 18 June 2021. Participants joining the meeting included Mr. Shu Gangbo, Deputy Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education; Mr. Xu Kai, Deputy Director of Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR); Ms. Pan Fang- Fang, Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of Beijing Municipal Education Commission; Mr. Derek Lai, Principal Assistant Secretary (Higher Education) of the Education Bureau of HKSAR; as well as representatives of 20 member institutions of BHUA. Professor Wong Suk-Ying, Associate Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the meeting on behalf of the University. The meeting summarized the achievement of the Alliance in the last three years and approved the mechanism of rotating chairmanship.
Founded in 2018 by CUHK and various local and Beijing universities, BHUA aims at establishing closer linkage and exchange, enhancing talent nurturing and research collaboration, as well as the levels of higher education in the two regions. Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Convenes Hong Kong Working Group Meeting
The Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance (JHMUA) held its preparatory work meeting among Hong Kong members on 1 June 2021. Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) attended the meeting on behalf of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Participating representatives held discussions on the organizational structure, operating mechanism and professional sub-alliances concerning the establishment of JHMUA. The meeting unanimously supported an inauguration ceremony of the JHMUA cum President Forum which is scheduled to be held in November to enhance the communication among member universities in kicking off the development plan.
The Jiangsu-Hong Kong–Macao University Alliance was initiated by Nanjing University,CUHK’s strategic partner in Jiangsu, in 2021. It aims to promote exchanges in the fields of talent fostering, scientific research collaborations and cultural heritage among universities in Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao, jointly promoting the holistic development of the Yangtze River Delta region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
