CUHK Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The ceremony commenced at CUHK’s newly installed flagpoles that will be the permanent home for raising the national flag on a weekly basis, as well as on major holidays. The national flag was raised alongside the HKSAR flag and the CUHK flag to a rendition of the national anthem.
Professor John Chai Yat-Chiu, Chairman of the CUHK Council, and Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, together with around 200 guests including CUHK Council Members, staff, students, alumni, as well as representatives of mainland organizations in Hong Kong, diplomats, and entrepreneurs with links to the University, attended the ceremony.
Speaking before the ceremony, Professor Tuan said, “the University community is honoured to share this moment in history with the people of Hong Kong. Over the past 25 years, CUHK has proudly contributed to the integration of Hong Kong with the nation’s development, and today is an important opportunity to reflect on how far we have come, and consider the future contributions we wish to make”.
