CUHK and Dongguan Municipal Government Organize Working Group Meeting
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held a working group meeting with Dongguan Municipal Government online on 20 May 2021. Professor Chan Wai-Yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Mr. Liu Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Dongguan Municipal Government, co-chaired the meeting to discuss the proposed collaboration plans.
Representatives from Dongguan included Mr. Zhuo Qin, Director of Science and Technology Bureau; Mr. Zhong jingping, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Bureau; Ms. Tan Yan-Zhen, Deputy Director of Great Bay University Planning Office; Mr. Fan Hong-Bo, Director of Science and Technology Office of Dongguan University of Technology; Mr. Yang Zhen, Deputy Director of Science Centre of China Spallation Neutron Source; together with officers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Office and Finance Bureau. Professor Sham Mai-Har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Daniel HS Lee, Associate Vice-President; Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Benny Zee, Director of Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) and Dr. Lin Huang-Quan, Director of the Greater Bay Area Development Office attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed proposed collaboration plans with focus on building platform for research cooperation, knowledge transfer, cultivation of international-level talents as well as promoting resource sharing and talent gathering. Both sides will coordinate to advance the development plan with joint efforts.
CUHK Meets NCKU to Discuss Smart Hospital Collaboration
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) held an online meeting on 7 June. CUHK representatives in the meeting included Professor Fok Tai-Fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Fung Hong, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of CUHK Medical Centre; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). NCKU President Professor Su Huey-Jen joined the meeting with Professor Shen Meng-Ru, Superintendent of NCKU Hospital; Dr. Tsai Yi-Shan, Department of Medical Imaging; and Professor Wang Hsiao-Wen, Vice President for International Affairs.
Since the establishment of partnership in 2007, CUHK has been collaborating with NCKU via a variety of projects in research and student interflow. The meeting further enhanced understanding and bolstered the linkage between the two universities for future development.
CUHK Holds Meeting with National Remote Sensing Center of China on the Development of Hong Kong Base
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held an online meeting with National Remote Sensing Center of China (NRSCC) on 2 July to discuss future collaboration plans. Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Sham Mai-Har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Kwan Mei-Po, Director of CUHK Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS); Professor MA Pei-Feng of ISEIS; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) attended the meeting. Participants of NRSC included Mr. Wang Qi-an, Director; Mr. Liu Zhi-Chun, Deputy Director; Ms. Zhang Jing, Deputy Director of Office of Earth Observations; and Ms. Miao Chen, Manager of Office of Earth Observations. Mr. Liu Zhi-Ming, Chief Representative of Hong Kong Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology joined the discussion at the meeting.
The meeting started with a brief introduction on recent developments of NRSC. Professor Kwan Mei-Po also gave presentation on research achievements in ISEIS. Representatives from both sides held in-depth discussions on future direction and collaboration modes concerning the development projects and collaboration mechanism of the Department of Hong Kong Research, Development and Training of NRSCC (known as “Hong Kong Base”).
The Hong Kong Base was established in 2000 hosted in ISEIS. It aims to be a remote sensing center in the tropical and sub-tropical regions in conducting and promoting remote sensing research. The base performs as an academic exchange center across the strait and an international cooperation center of Geo-information Science in Hong Kong.
CUHK Meets Great Bay University Online
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) met with Great Bay University (GBU) on 5 July to discuss future collaboration plans. Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Chan Wai-Yee and Professor Sham Mai-Har, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Professor Daniel Lee, Associate Vice-President; Professor Song Chun-Shan, Dean of Science; Professor Benny Zee, Director of Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China); and Dr. Lin Huang-Quan, Director of Office for Greater Bay Area Developments attended the meeting. Participants of GBU included Professor Tian Gang, Person-in-Charge of GBU Initiative; Professor Wang En-Ge, Chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee; and members from GBU Planning Office.
Both parties agreed to embark on all-round plans as an innovative platform of Guangdong-Hong Kong collaboration. The meeting discussed future plans including positioning and mechanism to promote research cooperation and in-depth exchanges via the platform. With the research and innovation advantages of CUHK, the collaboration plan will serve the major needs and strategic development of the country and Dongguan.
