To enhance collaboration among CUHK and universities in mainland China and Taiwan whilst encouraging academic and cultural exchange between students across the strait, the China Engagement Office has been organizing annual summer placement programme since 2008, which has hosted over 990 mainland and Taiwan students.
Sharing of Joining Zhejiang Lab Research Internship Programme
The China Engagement Office of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined hands with Zhejiang Lab to launch a new research internship programme for Faculty of Engineering PhD Students. The programme has first started during June to August 2022. CUHK Faculty of Engineering nominated two outstanding research students to participate in this programme. Here are some of their experience sharing for the seven-week internship.
“It has been a great opportunity to do research in Zhejiang Lab. During my stay at Research Center for Intelligent Chips and Devices, I was surrounded by all kinds of custom-designed laser nanofabrication systems, which were almost ready to be industrialized. As an optical engineer myself, I was really impressed by the creative works going on here. And I hope my short visit could be a start for future collaborations. Zhejiang Lab also impressed me in other aspects, such as its environment, campus management, and its blueprint for development. The lab is continuously bettering the working condition for its employees and broadening the research scope towards a more intelligent future.”
– Ms Gu Songyun, PhD student of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, CUHK
“I am currently working in the Research Center for Intelligent Robotics. Zhejiang Lab provided good working environment, hardware facilities, and living conditions. There are tremendous innovative research projects for students to take part in. Specifically, we focus on the motion planning of robots and depending on the cloud platform to execute tasks. I will use my rest of the time to focus on the implementation of AI algorithm.”
– Mr. Tang Ruijie, PhD student of Electrical Engineering, CUHK
In order to strengthen the cooperation and to provide CUHK research students with valuable internship opportunities in well-known research institutions in China, the Faculty of Engineering and the China Engagement Office co-organize this new research internship programme with Zhejiang Lab. This 3-month internship programme aims to render support for research students to gain work experience in top national scientific bases for research training and to broaden their horizons.
