Course Description This course aims to develop a game theoretic framework for understanding strategies in business. When making managerial decisions, managers must take into account the reaction of rival firms, governments and their subordinates. This module aims to introduce how game theory can help in business decision making, including pricing, product design, advertising, research and development and human resources arrangement. Game-based and analytical approach are used, and application of game theoretic framework is emphasized.
Course Content The course will cover:

  • The Nature of Strategic Interaction
  • Games with Sequential Moves
  • Games with Simultaneous Moves
  • Commitment and Strategic Moves
  • Prisoners’ Dilemma and Reception
Learning Outcomes After completing this course, students should be able to

  • Acquire an understanding in applied game theory;
  • Appreciate the application of game theory in business and other real life situations;
  • Apply game-theoretic analysis, both formally and intuitively, to various interactions in business environment.
