Big congratulations to Prof. Ng Wai Ming, Benjamin, from the Department of Japanese Studies, CUHK! His book, ‘和魂漢神: Localization of Chinese Folk Belief in Tokugawa Japan’ has been awarded the ‘Best Asian Books of the Year’ by Korea Publishers Society.
‘This book is a pioneering study of the localization of Chinese folk beliefs during the Tokugawa period (1603-1868) in Japan. On the basis of more than 30 years of deep academic foundation and analysis of numerous Chinese and Japanese historical materials, the author explored the deep cultural connection between China and Japan from a unique angle of “和魂漢神,” and said what others could not say…The author made his own contribution to academic fields such as thought exchange, East Asian Chinese studies, and religion by providing a fresh perspective on the history of cultural exchange between China and Japan’, as the Asia Book Awards Committee commented.
