B.A. , M. Phil. & Ph. D. (CUHK)
Professor Tong received his B.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He studied Chinese painting and calligraphy from renowned masters such as JAO Tsung I and YANG Shan Shen. He learned seal carving under the instruction of seal carvers YE Lu Yuen and MA Guo Quan. He joined the Department of Fine Arts in 1995, teaching studio courses on Chinese calligraphy, seal carving, landscape and bird-and-flower painting. Professor Tong is at present a member of the Xiling Seal Association and Expert Advisor (Chinese painting and calligraphy) to the Leisure and Culture Services Department. He was Executive Member of the Chinese Calligraphers’ Association of Guangdong Province, Adjudicator of the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards organized by Hong Kong Museum of Art (2009) and that of the Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists XXV organized by Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Macau (2009).
Professor Tong supervises M.F.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. He won the Teaching Award” from the Department, the “Innovative Teaching Award” and “Exemplary Teaching Award” from the Faculty of Arts, and was four times nominated “Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award” (2000, 2005, 2008 , 2010&2014). He has taken part in more than 200 art exhibitions in Hong Kong and abroad.
