Abstract

In this article the writer compares the two major schools of cognitive development — the Piagetian and the "Associatives". He then reviews the recent research on cognitive development in the field of mathematics and science learning. These research findings show that children of the same age may be in different stages of development and that their performance to a large extent depends on their cognitive maturity.
