CUHK ISEIS Students Win 1st runner-up in Green Competition

Mr CHE Weitao and Mr ZHANG Fan, students of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), recently won 1st runner-up for their project – “Smart Campus Environment Information Platform”, presented in the first Green Competition organized by Green University Consortium. The competition was held in CUHK during 22-26 Jan, 2013. Based on the Virtual CUHK system, this project uses wireless sensor networks and smart phones to monitor the un-seen pollutants, and realizes a workspace for the collecting, publishing and perception of environmental information. The platform could be served as public tools for the assistance of environment evaluation, which will be very positive to promote the “Green” concept, to raise public awareness and contribution of environmental protection. It can also support the scientific research for the experts.

The Cross strait Green University Consortium was established in May 2011 among CUHK, Nanjing University and Taiwan Central University to consolidate resources from the three institutions, serving as a platform for driving initiatives that incorporate green concepts into research and education. According to the Green University Consortium Agreement, the three member institutions will develop cross?institution green programmes or competitions to get students involved in extending their experience to the community and promoting sustainable development.

The theme for the first Green Competition is “Environmental Protection, Sustainable Development and Green Culture”, hosted by CUHK and coordinated by Office of Academic Links (China). The next competition will be held by Nanjing University.
