Centre for Novel Biomaterials |
Centre for Organelle Biogenesis and Function The research centre aims at investigating the fundamentals of important biological processes, with potential applications in biotechnology such as increasing crop yields, prevention of human diseases and developing biofuels. |
Food Research Centre of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Being the first university Food Research Centre (FRC) in Hong Kong, it not only responds timely to the concerns of food safety and nutritional issues in Hong Kong, China and the region, but also be an one-stop research centre for all facets of basic and contract research on foods consumed or produced in Hong Kong. |
Established in 2017, research focus of the Center is to understand plant adaptation to abiotic stresses, and the mechanisms of gene regulation relating to plant-environment interactions, with an ultimate goal to identify useful functional genes and effective molecular markers to help generating new adaptive varieties and agrobiotechnology. To combat problems arising from climate change, including water scarcity, global warming, and topsoil nutrient depletion, so as to strive for a balance between sustainable agriculture and food security, the Center pledges to advance researches through integration of cutting-edge technologies in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology, and international collaboration and information sharing with scientists worldwide. |
Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium The Herbarium was renamed as the Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium in 2013 for the extension of the legacy of the late Prof. Hu’s contribution in plant taxonomy. The Herbarium collection contains about 38,000 plant specimens, and a new platform has been established to document specimen collection, botanical images, GPS locations, DNA tissues and taxonomic archive information of local flora. |
Simon FS Li Marine Science Laboratory The Simon FS Li Marine Science Laboratory is well-equipped for field and laboratory research in marine biology. Current research interests include but are not limited to ecology, evolution, conservation, genomics, ecotoxicology and biotechnology, from marine microorganisms to eukaryotes. |
The Centre for Protein Science and Crystallography The Centre for Protein Science and Crystallography has been established in 2005, which houses the first state-of-the-art crystallographic setup in Hong Kong for high resolution protein structure determination. |
The Hong Kong Bioinformatics Centre The Hong Kong Bioinformatics Centre, found in 1998, is the first bioinformatics research centre in Hong Kong. In collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, the centre is involved in different biomedical research projects, such as studies on the various human pathogens: H. pylori, S. pneumonia, and M. tuberculosis |
