The exhibition Golden Techniques II: Art of the Chinese Goldsmiths, co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Art Museum and the Chow Tai Fook Master Studio, will run until 21 May 2023. To usher in the Year of the Rabbit, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Art Museum will host the exhibition Celebrating the Year of the Rabbit from 25 February to 18 May 2023. The exhibition features a selection of more than 40 Chinese landscape paintings, dating from the Yuan dynasty to the contemporary period, and showcasing distinctive styles and techniques. The “Majestic Vistas” of the exhibition title describes the gigantic size and composition of these large-scale landscape paintings. The International Council of Museums Committee for University Museums and Collections (ICOM-UMAC) announced on 18 September that The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Art Museum has won the UMAC Award 2022 for its project Time Travel・Hong Kong sponsored by GS Charity Foundation. The Art Museum of CUHK is staging the exhibition Sparkle and Charm: Canton Enamels of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong’s first art promotion project supported by the China National Arts Fund, from 17 September 2022 to 27 March 2023; it also collaborates with the jewellery design workshop Loupe, holding a contemporary enamel art show at PMQ. This spring, the Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) presents a series of special exhibitions, Celebrating the Year of the Tiger, Artistic Crosscurrents from Guangdong: Selected Painting and Calligraphy from Late Qing to Republican China (Collection of the Art Museum, CUHK), as well as Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelains across the Globe. The exhibition is divided into six zones, showcasing more than 400 pieces (sets) of trade porcelains and related objects. With textual records and historical images, the exhibition aims to reconstruct the design, manufacture, transport, and sale processes of Chinese export porcelains, and the functions and influences of porcelains in overseas markets. It also invites visitors to travel back in time and see how Ming and Qing porcelains profoundly impacted the porcelain industry of the world.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received a generous donation of HK$50 million from the family of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lee on the occasion of the Art Museum’s Golden Anniversary. Together with an earlier donation from the Lo Kwee Seong Foundation, the Lee family’s gift enabled the Art Museum to build a new building with substantial increment in gallery space. The Art Museum, CUHK presents a golden jubilee special exhibition on Ming to mid-Qing paintings and calligraphy from 27 August to 19 December 2021. The exhibition, showcasing more than 70 exhibits, sheds light on the influential poets, painters, and calligraphers, as well as the culture of art collecting and gathering in Guangdong during the Qing dynasty.
