National Taiwan University of Arts Graduate School of Art Management & Culture Policy
National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) has been established for over half a century and has the longest history among art institutions in Taiwan. As an indispensable part of Taiwan’s art education scenario, NTUA’s curriculum is highly balanced, which focuses both on the local and the international, the avant-garde and the traditional, the creative and the commercial, and the theoretical and the practical. The university is home to about 5000 students and has employed about 180 staff members and over 700 part-time teachers.
NTUA’s Graduate School of Art Management & Culture Policy was set up in 2006 as a reflection and response to the trends and demands of contemporary and future artistic developments at domestic, regional and global levels. Art and culture are crucial indictors reflecting our social environment and concrete aspects of our life. Contemporary art can only develop in depth depending on far-sighted cultural policy planning and efficient management. The former is based on the study of contemporary trends, their theories, as well as their potential development through the dialectics of thoughts, policies and regulations analyses; whereas the latter is founded upon an awareness of art and history, practical training in market operations, as well as inspirational perceptiveness to creativity and design. In this light, the school has planned courses accordingly in both theory and practice, in order to encourage students to raise questions, understand cultural phenomena, tackle issues in interpretation, and rationally develop a critical approach.
