CUHK Appoints Master-Designate for S.H. Ho College

The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), at its meeting held on 26 April, 2022, approved the appointment of Prof. Vincent C.T. Mok as the next Master of S.H. Ho College for a period of four years from 1 August, 2022.
Professor Mok is currently the Head of Division of Neurology at Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, and Mok Hing Yiu Professor of Medicine at CUHK. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Sydney in 1992 and a subsequent Medical Doctorate Degree at CUHK in 2006.
Professor Mok is a renowned expert in neurological diseases. His research interests include vascular cognitive impairment, poststroke dementia and mixed dementia, cerebral small vessel disease, multi-modal brain and retinal imaging for stroke and cognitive impairment, and Parkinson’s disease. He serves as Secretary of the Neurology Specialty Board, Hong Kong College of Physicians; Advisory Council Member of the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART); Hong Kong Representative of the World Federation of Neurology; Executive Committee Member of the International Society of Vascular Behavioral and Cognitive Disorders; and Honorary Treasurer of the Asian Society Against Dementia. Since 2021, he has been appointed as Member of the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunization, set up by the Department of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to provide independent assessment on the potential causal link between adverse events following immunisation and COVID-19 vaccination.
Professor Mok’s achievements have won him honours and awards. He received the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Science & Technology) in Natural Sciences (1st Class) from the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China in 2011; and the Excellent Research Award and the 10th Health and Medical Research Fund Anniversary Award from the Food and Health Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2017 and 2021 respectively.
Professor Mok is a passionate educator who received seven times Teacher of the Year Award at CUHK from 2005 to 2012, Master Teacher Award in 2012, and Outstanding Fellow Award from the Faculty of Medicine in 2016. He plays an active role to expand the horizons of the next generation. Asia’s first elite MBChB programme — the Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS) launched by the Faculty of Medicine in 2013 offers students with medical training in leadership, research, hospital administration, and humanitarian service. Professor Mok was one of the founding members who established this holistic pioneer programme.
As a prolific medical scientist, Professor Mok has authored more than 300 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, with publications in Lancet, JAMA, Lancet Neurology, Nature Reviews Neurology and etc.
