Graduate Awarded Ho Tim Foundation Scholarship at Hughes Hall, the University of Cambridge
Graduate of the College, Mr. Bryan Pang, a Psychology major, has been awarded Ho Tim Foundation Scholarship at Hughes Hall for 2022-23. He is studying an MPhil programme in Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge for a year. Offered by the College, the Ho Tim Foundation Scholarship will cover the recipient’s tuition fee, college fee, living expenses and the cost of return airfare between Hong Kong and London.
“I am very honoured to receive the Ho Tim Foundation Scholarship at Hughes Hall to do an MPhil in Experimental Psychology at Cambridge, with a research focus on moral psychology and behavioural economics,” said Bryan. Aspiring to be a scholar, he believes that the learning and research experience at Cambridge would give him better chances to do a doctoral degree and pursue an academic career.
For College students who may be thinking of doing a research Master, Bryan recommended them applying for Ho Tim Foundation Scholarship and had some tips for them. “First, know your research interests. Having a clear vision about the research you want to do is the most important. Applications to research Masters at Cambridge usually require handing in a research proposal, so you should have an idea about what unexplored topics within your field attracts your interests. Second, identify a suitable research supervisor. Take the time to browse the info pages of faculty members of the Department. When you see someone that has similar interests with you, be proactive and reach out – send an email to introduce yourself, possibly asking for a Zoom meeting. The last tip is a rather cliché one – just go for it! Applying to Cambridge is like buying the lottery – it is low cost, slim odds, but extremely high reward (especially when the scholarship makes it free!). I never thought I would get in when I applied.”
Bryan added, “I look forward to the intellectual stimulations and challenges I will encounter, the debates and discoveries I will engage in, to meeting friends with different backgrounds, and of course, to telling the story of Hong Kong to the rest of the world.
