When the Bright Minds Take Flight
Endeavour to attract and nurture the bright minds from the local and international community, S.H. Ho College has been offering a wide range of scholarships and awards in recognition of students’ academic excellence and outstanding performance in areas such as creativity, community services, sports and leadership activities, moral character and contributions to the College. At the High Table Dinner-cum-Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on 12 November, Prof. Samuel Sun, Dr. Tzu-leung Ho and Mrs. Stella Ho presented 99 scholarship awards to the College’s distinguished students.
Before the ceremony commenced, Dr Ho briefly recalled the founding of S.H. Ho College and the efforts the pioneers paid which benefited generations of students to pursue excellence. Lam Ka Wai, the recipient of Dr and Madam Tzu-leung Ho Scholarships for Distinguished Medical Students 2014/15 and representative of the scholarship recipients, proceeded to the lectern and expressed sincere gratitude to the College and the donors, especially Dr and Madam Tzu-leung Ho, for their generosity and contribution to support their studies at CUHK. ‘Receiving this scholarship does not only mean financial assistance, but also reminds us of the responsibility of students,’ said Lam Ka Wai. ‘Despite making every endeavor to study, it is also of utmost importance to engage in social services to serve the underprivileged. Medical personnel should not only be equipped with professional skills but also sincere attitude and a considerate mind.’
The result of Jacobson Digital Storytelling Competition was also announced in the ceremony. The competition aims to encourage students to develop students’ English proficiency by making effective use of written, spoken and visual languages to create original, reflective and inspiring digital stories that capture meaningful and unforgettable experiences gained in college life. Josephine Chen, Ma Hon Ki, Tang Wei Ying and Zhang Tianyu were awarded for their creativity and digital storytelling techniques demonstrated in their works. Among the awardees, Tang Wei Ying’s An Unforgettable Trip which recorded her learning and experiences in the Pan Asian Student Forum clinched the Champion. Zhang Tianyu’s A Trip to the Dream Island won the First Runner-up and Most Popular Award, while Ma Hon Ki’s Make an Impact won the Second Runner-up. The Most Reflective Award went to Josephine Chen’s The Smile in Cambodia. Dr. Kevin Chu, the General Manager of Jacobson Pharma Group, graced the event as an honorable guest and witnessed the efforts of the awardees.
While enjoying the gourmet, diners were absorbed in listening to the chamber music performed by student violinists, cellists and a pianist. Adham Molokhia, an exchange student from Egypt, played four enchanting pieces of piano music including Mozart’s sonata. The lingering charm of the enchanted music and the culinary delight have become one of the fondest high table memories that the diners will recall.
