‘Ten Years of Bonding • Hundreds of Stitches’ Exhibition
S.H. Ho College is presenting the ‘Ten Years of Bonding • Hundreds of Stitches’ exhibition on its main development and programmes in the past decade. Through this exhibition, we hope to share the values and beliefs that the College treasures, and further strengthen the bonding among the family members of this ‘home’. The opening ceremony of the exhibition on 19 October was kicked off by speeches by Prof. Samuel Sun, College Master; Dr Tzu-leung Ho, Chairman of the College’s Committee of Overseers; and Miss Angela Ng, President of the College’s Student Union Executive Council. Then together with other officiating guests, namely, Prof. Michael Hui, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK; Prof. K.B. Wong, the College’s Dean of Students; Dr. Lawrence Chiu, the College’s Dean of General Education; and Miss Eva Hong, Chairperson of the College’s Alumni Association, the three speakers officiated at the ceremony. With champagne cups filled with golden powder, they poured the powder on the house-shaped frame board slowly. It is hoped that members of the College would brighter its future.
A ‘hundred-family clothe’ (百家衣) is one of the special exhibits. According to Chinese tradition, the so-called ‘hundred-family clothe’ is a garment in patchwork style specially made for a newborn baby. It is handcrafted by sewing together pieces of fabric which the newborn’s family collects from many other families, thereby implying their solidarity and blessings for the newborn. It is hoped that babies who wear ‘hundred-family clothes’ will grow healthy and strong. The ‘hundred-family jacket’ on display is made by combining various T-shirts designed for the College’s previous student activities, and it symbolizes students’ blessings for the College. We hope the College will continue to develop with members’ collective effort and the University’s support.
