Social Services

WE MADE A DIFFERENCE

The College works with a variety of charity organizations to provide opportunities for students to participate in voluntary services. In addition to experiencing an exciting campus life, the College encourages students to care about the underprivileged and to contribute to the community. SHHO students have made impact in different corners of the world – in Hong Kong, the Mainland, Cambodia and Uganda.

Social Service in Cambodia

S.H. Ho College has been sending students Cambodia to serve the needy since 2012. Under the guidance of an accompanying professor, SHHO students would serve the needy in a slum area in Phnoem Penh, the home for HIV+/AIDS affected orphans, and orphanage for the disabled orphans. Students from the Faculty of Medicine would provide the residents with voluntary medical consultations. This is a life changing experience in the hope of doing more for the underprivileged people in the world.

(14-22 June 2012) SHHO students shared love and care with Cambodians

Social Service in Africa

(16 October 2012) The College’s social service team built a dormitory for Watoto children in Suubi Village, Uganda in July 2011. The dormitory is now completed and ready for the future leaders of Uganda to live and grow in.

(6-19 July 2011) Fifteen SHHO students went to Uganda with Prof. Jeseph J.Y. Sung for voluntary service, offering medical services to orphaned children and vulnerable women, sponsoring and assisting in building a student dormitory, and paying visits to various children’s villages, babies’ homes and women centres.

(19 October 2010) Concert of Hope presented by the Watoto Children’s Choir is held at SHHO. The Watoto Children’s Choir travels around the world as an advocate for the estimated 50 million children in Africa who have been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war, poverty and disease. College students joined the sponsorship programme to save lives and educate children.

Social Service in Mainland China

(18 February 2011) On Feb 18, 2011, a group of SHHO students joined Stand TALL on a visit to Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and Dujianyan You’ai School. The tour not only aimed to serve the patients by participating in clinical work and providing entertainment, some students also decided to be the mentors of patients, and to act as their lifelong partners to cheer them up as well as guiding them to pursue the happiness of living.

(25 December 2010 – 3 January 2011) Under the supervision of Prof. Edward Ng of the School of Architecture, four College students participated in the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) project to build a bridge during the 2010 Christmas holidays. They cooperated with students from Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and benefitted from some excellent life experiences. Another stage of the Wu Zhi Qiao project took place in the summer of 2011, which involved building a bridge from the Yunnan border to Vietnam as part of a nine-day trip.

Social Service in Hong Kong

(11 December 2010) The College Social Services Team joined forces with the Christian & Missionary Alliance Shatin Church to enjoy a cheerful Christmas event at the SAGE Madam Ho Sin Hang Home for the Elderly. It was a fantastic party which included magic and singing performances staged by the students. The Social Services team plans to visit the elderly home frequently to provide support to those in need.
