Key Problem and Market Opportunity
- New multimode waveguide grating couplers require relatively long (millimeter scale) waveguide tapers which if they use conventional linear adiabatic taper to expand the waveguide width from ~ 1 micron to the ~50 micron width for matching the diameter of industry standard multimode fibers
- Long tapers occupy expensive chip real estate
