Alicia M. Barry is a PhD student researching gender inequality and low fertility in China. Originally from London, Alicia obtained an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford in 2020. For her master’s thesis, she conducted qualitative interviews with mothers living in Chinese cities to understand their fertility intentions for a second child since the relaxation of the one child policy. Before that, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Chinese (Modern & Classical) at SOAS University of London. During this time, she received scholarships for exchange programmes at Beijing Normal University and National Taiwan Normal University.
