This course is designed to help Chinese studies majors enhance their Chinese language, texual research competencies, and understanding of China. The selected texts for this course vary according to the instructor’s research expertise and students’ research interests. There will be workshops helping students identify major journals and archives in Chinese language, pick relevant research texts for close reading, explore fiction writing, develop essay writing and present on the topic based on the selected reading. The class will be conducted in Mandarin to accommodate students’ language proficiency.

Week 9  Writing Workshop 2: Literary Criticism

Week 10  Post-1979 China: Han Song

Week 11  Final Project Presentation I

Week 12  Final Project Presentation II

1) Attendance and Participation (20%) 

2) Discussion Facilitation (10%) 

3) Essays (20% each – 40% total) 

4) Final Project (30%) 

Before submitting all written assignments, first upload them to the VeriGuide system (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/veriguide), obtain the Veriguide receipt, sign it, and attach it to the paper copy submission of your essay on the final submission date.
