Application for MPhil in Chinese Studies

Application Procedures
Applicants should first submit an Online Application here.
The Online Application Fee is HK$300.
In addition to the Online Application, applicants should submit the following Supporting Application Materials:
- A research proposal, at least 5 pages in length and written in ENGLISH
- A paper on a topic related to Chinese Studies, at least 10 pages in length and written in ENGLISH
- Documentary proof or recognized test results of the applicant’s Chinese standard
- Documentation showing the applicant has fulfilled the Graduate School’s English Language Proficiency Requirement
- Two confidential recommendations
- Applicants can invite their teacher, supervisor or any person who knows them well to serve as their referees.
- Referees can directly send the recommendation forms to the Centre office. Alternatively, as long as the recommendations are put in sealed envelopes, applicants can send in the recommendation forms together with other application documents.
- Official transcripts from the colleges/universities attended by the applicants
- It usually takes weeks for official transcripts to reach the Centre office. Applicants are advised to apply for the transcripts from their university registration office as soon as possible.
- Applicants can ask the registration office to send the official transcript directly to the Centre office. Alternatively, as long as the transcripts are put in sealed envelopes, applicants can send in the official transcripts together with other application documents.
- CUHK undergraduate students or graduates can apply for a “Student Copy Transcript” (instead of an “Official Transcript”) from the Registration and Examinations Section. A photocopy of the Student Copy Transcript will be accepted.
- CUHK postgraduate students or graduates can apply for a “Student Copy Transcript” (instead of an “Official Transcript”) from the Graduate School. A photocopy of the Student Copy Transcript will be accepted.
- Copies of certificates of academic/professional qualifications (e.g. degree certificates).
- Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) issued by the CHESICC (學信網).
- Copies of identity card or passport

- Round 1: 1 December 2022 – For applicants of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
- Round 2: 31 March 2023 – For non-HKPFS applicants

*All applicants are highly encouraged to submit the applications by the fellowship deadline on 1 December 2022.

- A copy of Master’s thesis or sample research paper written in ENGLISH
