Dear Students,
I wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year despite the difficult pandemic situation we are going through! At the beginning of the Year of the Tiger, let’s take some time to reflect on last year and set goals for the new year. First, think about things, either positive or negative, that happened during the last 12 months. Next, review our achievement and lessons we learned from these events. After finishing analyzing the past year, we should move on to embrace the new year with goals and plans. This starts with setting measurable goals in various categories such as personal life, studies, and family. We can then plan the actions needed to achieve our goals, and define milestones at different points of the year to keep track of the progress.
As the course teacher of GEWS1011 for the past two years, I have witnessed students’ growth after taking the course. They learned to propose and execute projects to introduce Hong Kong to non-local students, serve the underrepresented communities or conserve nature and local culture, or challenge themselves by conducting the “ME” project (anything that he/she has wished but dares not to do in the past). I would encourage our students to aim high by proposing new “ME” project for themselves in the new year. By taking on challenges that are harder than what we are used to, we can push beyond our limits and potentially achieve something new and important.
Finally, I wish all of you a safe and successful new year with significant personal growth and academic achievement!
