Professor i a l Ap p o i n t me n ts Professor of Economics Prof. Suen W i n g - c h u en has been a p p o i n t e d professor of economics f r om 2nd July 2005. Prof. Suen received hi s Ph.D. f r o m the U n i v e r s i ty of Wa s h i n g t o n i n 1988. He had taught at the School of Economics and Finance, U n i v e r s i t y of H o n g K o n g , f r o m 1989 to 2005, and had served as v i s i t i n g scholar to the Un i v e r s i ty of Chicago and Harvard University, and as visiting associate p r o f e s s or to S i m o n Fraser University. Professor of Law Prof. Michael J. McConville has been appointed professor of law f r om 31st August 2005. Prof. M c C o n v i l l e received hi s LLB f r om L o n d on U n i v e r s i ty i n 1971 and his Ph.D. f r om No t t i n g h am Universit y i n 1975. He was Walter E. Me y er Professor at N e w Yo rk U n i v e r s i ty f r om 1984-85, chairman of the School of Law at the University of Warwick f r om 1993 to 2001, and dean of the School o f Law, City University of Hong Kong, f r om 2001-04. Professor of History Prof. Billy K.L. So has been appointed professor of history from 1st October 2005. Prof. So is a C U H K alumnus and received his Ph.D. f r o m A u s t r a l i a n Na t i o n al Un i v e r s i ty in 1983. He joined CUH K in 1993 and now serves the Un i v e r s i t y as associate pro-vice-chancellor and registrar. Professor of I n f o rma t i on Engineering Prof. Raymond W.H. Yeung has been appointed professor of information engineerin g f r om 1st October 2005. Prof. W. H. Ye u n g r e c e i v e d his Ph . D . i n electrical e n g i n e e r i n g f r om Cornell University in 1988. He joined CUH K in 1991 and is regarded as a main contributo r to network coding. Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics Prof. Francis K.L. Chan has b e e n a p p o i n t e d professor of me d i c i n e and therapeutics f r om 1st October 2005. Prof. Chan obtained his MD from The Chinese Un i v e r s i ty i n 1998. He has taught at the Department of Me d i c i n e and Therapeutics in variou s capacities since 1995. He is also an assistant dean of the Fa c u l t y of Medicine and an honorary consultant physician of the Prince of Wales Hospital. Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics Prof. Juliana C.N. Chan has b e e n a p p o i n t e d professor of me d i c i n e and therapeutics f r om 1st October 2005. Prof. Chan obtained her M D f r om th e University of L i v e r p o ol i n 1998. She is assistant dean o f the Faculty of Medicine, consultant endocrinologist of the P r i n ce of Wale s H o s p i t a l, a n d h o n o r a ry professor of the Department of Endocrinology of the 301 People's Liberation A r my Hospital in Beijing. 5 0 Chinese University Bulletin Autumn • Winter 2005
