The opening ceremony of Professor Sheung Chung Ho Memorial Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting, which is co-organized by United College and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, took place on 27 August. Prof. Fung Kwok-pui (5th left), Head of United College; Mrs. Sheung Chung Ho (6th left); and Professor Ho Che-wah (4th right), chairman of the Chinese Department addressed the guests at the ceremony.
Born in 1937 at Shandong province, Professor Sheung moved to Hong Kong in 1947 and studied in United College in the 1960s, majoring in Chinese Language. He began his teaching career at the University upon graduation and became chairman of the Chinese department in 1978.
After his retirement from CUHK in 1997, Professor Sheung became a professor of the Institute of Chinese Literature and Chinese History of Chu Hai College and the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies, and also a consultant to the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Macao Museum.
He was a renowned scholar and beloved teacher. In 2005, the Macao Museum of Art held the exhibition ‘Paintings and Calligraphy by Sheung Chung Ho’ and published an album of paintings with the same title. Professor Sheung passed away on 26 June 2010 in Macau at the age of 73.
The ‘Professor Sheung Chung Ho Memorial Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting’ is organized in memory of Professor Sheung and in recognition of his contributions to the United College and his achievement in art. Its exhibition period is extended to 26 October 2011 due to the positive and enthusiastic response. All CUHK students, staff and alumni are welcomed to visit the exhibition at 2/F, Wu Chung Multimedia Library, United College.

Monday–Friday 8:20 am–10:00 pm
Saturday 8:20 am–7:00 pm
Sunday 1:00 pm–7:00 pm
Closed on 1 October 2011 (Saturday) and 5 October 2011 (Wednesday)
