The Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry research group led by Prof. Lin Hui of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) at CUHK has recently won a research grant from Dragon 3 Programme (2012–2016). The winning project will monitor the interaction between glaciers, permafrost and plateau lake dynamics in the Tibetan Plateau starting July.

Launched in 2004, the Dragon Programme provides a platform for scientists from China and Europe to collaborate in research and data sharing. The research team led by Professor Lin comprises members from CUHK; member institutes under China Academy of Sciences, including Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth, and Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute; Technical University of Munich, Germany; Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; and German Aerospace Center, Germany. The project is expected to derive remote sensing methodologies as well as joint hands in data exploitation, which is beneficial to monitor global climate change and regional development.
