The Departmental Research Seminar of Social Work Department on ‘Transnational Identity Formation and Mental Wellbeing: Experience of Chinese Canadians’, conducted by Prof. Angela W.Y. Shik, assistant professor of Social Work Department, was held on 30 March. It attracted about 60 participants, including social work teachers, professional practitioners and students.

During the seminar, Professor Shik reported the research findings, shared her interpretations and analyses, and discussed the implications of the findings for social work practice. She concluded that the young immigrants’ experience of immigrating to Canada resulted in the experience of loneliness which has affected their mental wellbeing. However, the transnational experience has fostered critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which turned into invaluable assets in their career development.
