Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide. In Hong Kong, one in four adults has fatty liver. And epidemiological studies show that mortality from cancer among patients with fatty liver has been increasing. Investigators from the Center for Liver Health at CUHK found that NAFLD patients were more likely to have colorectal polyps and advanced polyps, which can turn into cancer.
