The International Symposium on the Economics of Education was held at CUHK from 17 to 18 December 2011, under the joint sponsorship of the Department of Economics and the Department of Educational Administration and Policy. The symposium featured three keynote addresses from Prof. Joshua Angrist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Prof. Henry Levine, Columbia University; and Prof. Mark Rosenzweig, Yale University. In total, 46 papers were presented over 15 sessions. The symposium provided an important platform for researchers, policymakers, and educational practitioners for the discussion of education issues, and greatly facilitated the interactions between local and world-leading scholars in this field. Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, CUHK Vice-Chancellor, chaired the opening ceremony and delivered the welcoming speech.
