24-hour Drug and Poisons Information The Department o f Clinical Pharmacology has been operating a Drug and Poison s Information Bureau to serve doctors in Hong Kong during office hours since January 1988. The Department announced on 5th December, 1989 that a 24-hour emergency service would now be provided starting from that date. Two information officers who are members of the nursing staff of the Clinical Pharmacology Studies Unit would be on duty during day time, supported by four physicians who are specialists in clinical pharmacology and toxicology actively engaged in the practice and teaching of general internal medicine in the Prince of Wales Hospital. Substantial financial support has been provided by a pharmaceutical company to run this service. University Members Serving on Outside Committees (1) The following members of the University have been appointed by His Excellency the Governor to serve on various boards and committees: * Dr. K .M. Chan, reader in orthopaedics and traumatology, Dr. Frank Fu, director of physical education, and Dr. Richard Ho Man-wui, lecturer in Chinese, to serve as members of the Jubilee Sports Centre Board; Dr. Chan and Dr. Fu for two years from 1st November, 1989 and Dr. Ho for the period from 26th September to 31st October, 1989. * Professor S.W. Tam, dean of Graduate School and head of Chung Chi College, has been reappointed a member o f the Provisional Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation from 1st November, 1989. * Dr. Agnes Ng, senior lecturer in social work, in her capacity as chairman o f the Board of Studies in Social Wo r k , CUH K , has been reappointed an ex-officio member of the Advisory Committee on Social Wor k Training and Manpower Planning for two years from 1st November, 1989. * Dr. Kelvin Chan Kam-chuen, reader in pharmacology, to serve as a member of the Pharmacy and Poisons Appeal Tribunal, for three years from 1st December, 1989, * Professor Arthur K.C. Li, professor of surgery, to serve as a member of the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee from 1st January, 1990 to 31st March, 1993. * Professor Rance P.L. Lee, professor of sociology, has been reappointed a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit for a term ending 30th April , 1990. (2) The following members o f the University have been nominated to represent th e University on various boards and committees: * Dr. Winston W.P. Liang, director of the Office of Industrial and Business Development, has been re-nominated to serve on the Hong Kong Productivity Council for a term of one year from 1st January, 1990. * Mr. Chan Yuk-keung, assistant lecturer in fin e arts, to represent the University in the CNAA vali- dation/revalidation exercise for th e BA (design) programme of the Hong Kong Polytechnic from 8th to 17th January, 1990. * Professor T.E. Oh , dean of medicine and professor of anaesthesia and intensive care, and Professor Arthur K.C. Li, professor of surgery , both to serve on the Licentiate Committee of the Medical Council of Hong Kong. * Professor C.N. Chen, professor of psychiatry and head of Shaw College, has been re-nominated to serve on the Council of the Baptist College for a term of three years from 1st January, 1990. * Dr. H.C. Kuan, dean of social science and reader in government and public administration, to represent the University on the Selection Committee of the Swire/Cathay Pacific Scholarship at St. Antony's College, Ox f o rd and the J.K . Swire Memo r i al Scholarship at Nuffield College, Oxford for the academic year 1990-91. 12
