E x c h a n g e w i t h U T a n d T s i n g h ua R e i n f o r c ed T h e U n i v e r s i t y s i g n ed a c o l l a b o r a t i ve agreement w i t h the Un i v e r s i t y of Toronto (UT) o n 8th N o v emb e r 1997 to strengthen a n d expand academi c links between the t w o institutions. The agreement, signe d b y Prof. J. Robert S. Prichard, presiden t of UT, a n d Prof. A r t h u r K.C. Li , vice-chancellor of the University, w i l l consolidate existin g student a nd staff exchange p r o g r amme s a n d extend the scope a n d scale of collaboration i n areas s u c h as j o i n t a c a d e m ic p r o g r a m m e s , wo r k s h o ps a nd seminars, a nd international c o n s u l t a n cy p a r t n e r s h i p . F o r m a l l i n k s b e t w e e n the t w o u n i v e r s i t i e s w e r e f i r st established i n 1992. O n the same day, a trilateral agreement was also concluded amo ng C U H K , UT, a nd Tsinghua Un i v e r s i ty to enable top scientists f r om the three institutions to w o r k closel y o n b i o t e c h n o l o g i c al r e s e a r c h. I t w a s a n o u t g r o w t h of th e h i g h l y s u c c e s s f u l b i o t e c h n o l o g y wo r k - s t a t i o n established i n 1994 to p o ol the resources of UT, C U H K , a nd the Comm i s s i on of Science and Technology of C h i n a f o r j o i n t p r o j e c ts of s c i e n t i f ic significance. SCS Signs A c a d e m i c E x c h a n g e A g r e e m e nt w i t h US a nd A u s t r a l i an Un i v e r s i t i e s The School of Co n t i n u i n g Studies established a m e m o r a n d u m of understanding w i t h Oh i o Un i v e r s i ty on 17th No v emb er 1997, setting the stage for collaboration i n programmes on g e r o n t o l o g y , p o l i c e / s e c u r i ty studies, a n d ma n a g eme nt studies . The m e m o r a n d u m makes possible staf f exchange as w e l l as the sharin g of expertise i n c u r r i c u l um design . A n o t h er agreement was signed o n 24th No v emb er 1998 between the school a nd the V i c t o r i a U n i v e r s i t y of T e c h n o l o gy i n Australia t o r u n business courses i n systems s u p p o r t ( c omp u t i n g) i n H o n g K o n g f r om Ma r c h 1998. The agreement is part of the effort of the S c h o ol of C o n t i n u i n g S t u d i e s t o w a r d s d e v e l o p i n g i n f o r m a t i on t e c h n o l o g y education for w o r k i n g adults i n H o n g Ko n g. Graduates of the course w i l l be a w a r d e d bachelor's degrees b y the Victoria Un i v e r s i ty of Technology, a nd are expected to take u p p o s t s s u c h as a n a l y s t s , a p p l i c a t i o ns developers, consultants, i n f o r ma t i on centr e ma n a g e r s , n e t w o r k a dm i n i s t r a t o r s , a n d t r a i n i n g officers.
