The ground-breaking ceremony of the construction of S.H. Ho College was held on 15 December 2008. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Ho Tzu-cho, David, Chairman of The S.H. Ho Foundation and Dr. Ho Tsu-leung, Director of The S.H. Ho Foundation. In attendance were about 60 members of the University and supporters of the College including Sir and Lady Lee Quo-wei. This new "home" for the students is expected to be completed after two years.
 

S.H. Ho College was established with generous donations from The S.H. Ho Foundation which was set up by the Ho Family. "We very much embrace the same collegiate ideal as The Chinese University of Hong Kong and enthusiastically support the establishment of the new S.H. Ho College," said Dr. Ho Tzu-cho, David. "We consider The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the S.H. Ho College as our long-term partners in cultivating young minds who are keen to learn, share and contribute to society in times of bloom and adversity."

The College is expected to accept its first cohort of students in the fall of 2010, and will accommodate a total of 600 students on a fully residential basis. All S.H. Ho College students as well as the Master will reside and dine in the College. Professor Sun Sai-ming, Samuel, Master Designate of S.H. Ho College, said. "S.H. Ho College will strive to provide a homely setting, so that its students and teachers can learn, develop, and grow together in a caring, supportive, interacting, and stimulating environment, like a seed in fertile soil which germinates, grows, develops, and flourishes."

CUHK and the College are also grateful for the munificent support from the Wei Lun Foundation, Ho Tim Foundation, Chan Chun Ha Charitable Trust, Wu Yee Sun Charitable Foundation and Young Chi Wan Foundation for its development.
 

Over 1,500 graduating students gathered to sign up for the "2008 Graduating Class Pledge Scheme" and made a pledge to donate HK$500 or $800 to the University within two years after graduation. Their overwhelming response has increased donations to the University by nearly 1 million HK dollars.

Since its launch in 2004, nearly 8000 graduates have joined the "Graduating Class Pledge Scheme" which aims to encourage new graduates to foster the tradition of giving back to their Alma Mater. It is really encouraging to see so many new graduates joining the Scheme every year. This year more than 1,500 graduates have already signed up. Mr. Ricky Cheng, Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, remarked that not only does the Scheme help to raise funds for the University every year, it also sows the "Seed of Giving" in the new graduates thus strengthening their bond with their Alma Mater. He was grateful to all the graduates who have shown their commitment to the Scheme.

Graduating students who pledge to donate HK$500 or HK$800 within two years after graduation will receive souvenir pins, with the University's emblem and year of graduation engraved on them as tokens of their commitment.

The 4th CUHK Golf Day was held on 31st October 2008 in Shenzhen Mission Hills Golf Club. Over 100 alumni, college trustees and friends of CUHK participated in this meaningful event which helped to raise over 1 million HK dollars in support of CUHK's long term development.

Professor Ching Pak-chung, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor Chu Ka-ho, the Acting Head of New Asia College joined the alumni in supporting the event. After a series of exciting competitions, Chung Chi College finally won the CU Cup while the Senior Alumni Golf Team was the winner of the CUHK Team Open - Best Net. Mr. Tony Lau and Ms. Carol Chan were the Gross Champions of the Men and Women Open respectively.

CUHK Golf Day is one of the annual events organized by the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA). All donations received are used to set up scholarships for CUHK students in order to foster better quality education. "We sincerely thank our alumni and friends of CUHK for their continuous support. Let's join together to cultivate a philanthropic culture in the University," said Mr. Ricky Cheng, Director of OIA.
