A six-member delegation from Science and Technology Innovation Division, Science, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Commission of Shenzhen Municipality Government (SZSITIC) visited CUHK on 16 January. The delegates were guest speakers in the ‘China Links Seminar 2012—Shenzhen Government’s Support in Science and Technology Innovation’ jointly organized by CUHK’s Office of Academic Links (China), and Shenzhen Development Office. The seminar attracted more than 90 academics and members from faculties of engineering, medicine, science, and CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute.

In the seminar, Ms. Tu Huan, director of SZSITIC, gave an overview regarding Shenzhen government’s support in science and technology innovation during the 12th five-year plan period; Ms. Chen Xianmei, vice-director presented on relevant funding in developing basic research and Shenzhen key laboratories; and Mr. Xi Weizhong, vice-director, briefed on the ‘Peacock Campaign’ in attracting overseas talent.

The delegates also met with Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, CUHK; Prof. Liang Bin, executive vice-president of CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute, and representatives from engineering, science and medicine to enhance mutual understanding. Tours were arranged to visit research facilities in the University. The visit and the seminar enabled the CUHK community a deeper understanding of the recent development and funding opportunities in Shenzhen.
